A local councillor has welcomed safety improvements works at the busy Treehoo Cross junction in Redhills.
Cllr Stiofan Conaty confirmed works on the junction began yesterday and he said it was an issue that was affecting the Redhills, Bunnoe, Scotshouse and Ballyhaise areas, and was described as dangerous due to poor visibility.
The scheme represents significant investment by Cavan County Council into making the junction safer and also the rebuilding of the broken stone walls at the bridge.
Cllr Conaty outlined last month the dangers surrounding this junction and said it was an issue that needed to be addressed quickly and he highlighted his concerns surrounding the potential risks of a serious or fatal collision at the junction.
He paid tribute to the local municipal office in Cootehill for funding this much-needed project.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Conaty says he hopes the planned measures will finally make the junction safe for all road users.
