Samaritans are urging locals to give something back to their community in the New Year and consider becoming a helpline volunteer.
A new hub operated by Samaritans officially opened in recent weeks in Monaghan Town.
The newly trained volunteers in Monaghan are answering calls to Samaritans' national freephone helpline, 116 123, which is open 24/7.
Volunteer Branch Director, Margaret Fahey says "Samaritans' volunteers are people of all ages and all walks of life. The only skill is that you can be present, listen, and commit to three hours a week to give to others in need.
Margaret says nationally, volunteers across Ireland answer over 400,000 calls and emails a year. She says you can help them continue to connect with people that decide to reach out to the service.
