Scam texts will now be labelled 'likely scam' on phones

It's because the communications regulator has set up an approved register of businesses that can contact customers by phone.

Fake text messages will now be labelled on your phone as a ''likely scam''.
The new system - to clamp down on fraudulent messages - kicks in today.  Constant fake messages about your toll, custom fees or your mobile have become the norm here. But from today, these messages will now appear with 'likely scam' on them.  It's because the communications regulator has set up an approved register of businesses that can contact customers by phone.

  And any company that hasn’t registered will now see their texts marked as a "likely scam".
8,000 organisations have registered so far - and from October, those unregistered texts will be blocked by phone operators. It's hoped this will crack down on scam texts, which Comreg says cost up to 115 million euro a year.
