Sean McDermotts GAA Club has paid tribute to local councillor, Hughie McElvaney who passed away this week.
The councillor was an honorary member of the club, and has been described as a Sean's man through and through.
Mr. McElvaney sponsored several Sean's teams down through the years, and was never shy about supporting the club.
The Club has extended its condolences to its members, Fionnuala, Emmet, Stephen and Conor and the wider McElvaney family circle.
Chairperson of Sean McDermott's GAA club, Brian McPhillips, told Northern Sound the Mr. McElvaney was a great character.
McPhillips told Northern Sound: "Hughie was a great character around the club. He came to all the games, he was a long term sponsor.
"He played for the club, him and Micky Mulligan, who passed away not that long ago, they were great friends and they played together.
"His two sons are still involved in helping out. Stephen is the manager of the ladies team, his two children are still playing. Stephen's wife Emma plays with the club. Finnouala is also playing with the ladies. There is heavy involvement with the family.
The club is planning to pay tribute to Mr. McElvaney prior to its Junior Football Championship semi-final against Currin, in Scotstown, this Sunday.
"Being a councillor for 50 years, he was a very well known man. Hughie always had that smile, that wit, and razor sharp as well. Hughie wouldn't let you away with too much either, that's what made him such a good politican," the Sean's chair added.
