The Minister of State with responsibility for mental health, Mary Bulter TD, is being reminded to fulfil a promise she made to provide funding to SOSAD. Cavan-Monaghan Senator Pauline Tully pointed out the minister promised interim funding to the suicide prevention service based mostly in the north-east last November.
This was to sustain them until a service level agreement with the HSE was reached. but, the messaging service run by SOSAD ceased at midnight last night because of a lack of funding. The charity are still running their 24/7 helpline and free counselling services,.
Senator Tully said SOSAD play a critical role in saving lives and called for immediate funding to prevent service disruption. She has urged the Minister to fulfil her promise promptly (listen below):
