Ireland needs to 'reset' our attitude towards road safety as a society and motorists need to slow down.
That was the call from Garda Ann-Marie Lardner, of the Cavan-Monaghan Roads Policing Unit today following the sentencing of Anthony McGinn at Monaghan Circuit Court.
61 year old Anthony McGinn of Drumloo, Newbliss pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the deaths of 17 year old Kiea McCann and 16 year old Dlava Mohammed. He also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to Dlava Mohammed's sister, Avin.
The senior Garda says speed kills and the only people who can drive slower are drivers, but everyone can influence a driver. The Senior Investigating Officer said An Garda Síochána stands united in grief with the families of Kiea and Dlava.
Garda Lardner said both teenagers had their lives ahead of them and they were killed due to excessive speed. She appealed for drivers to slow down
