Almost €180,000 has been announced for Cavan and Monaghan under the 2024 Community Monuments Fund.
The strategic funding initiative supports a wide range of conservation projects, highlighting Government commitment to preserving Ireland's rich archaeological heritage. Since its establishment in 2020, the Community Monuments Fund has become a pivotal part of our national strategy to enhance the resilience of our archaeological sites against the impacts of climate
change and to improve their accessibility.
This funding enables essential repairs and capital works that are crucial for the conservation of these monuments. Enagh Windmill and Lime Kiln received €69,927, Drumlane Ecclesiastical Site received €17,527, Crover Castle - €30,000, Tydavnet Graveyard - €7,958, St Mogue’s Island - €29,845 and Errigal Truagh Church - €24,600.
Deputy Niamh Smyth has praised Heritage Officers Ann-Marie Ward in Cavan County Council and Kara Ward in Monaghan County Council for their dedication to conserving our heritage and supporting local volunteers. Deputy Smyth says this is very welcome news for the Northern Sound region.
