A local TD has welcomed the approval by Minister Helen McEntee of a number of Summer Works Scheme 2026 applications for schools throughout Cavan and Monaghan .
The Climate Action Summer Works Scheme, which was previously named the Summer Works Scheme, places a strong emphasis on sustainability.
Deputy Brendan Smith says schools can now undertake measures such as insulation upgrades, LED lighting installation, EV charger provision, bike rack facilities to support active travel and other climate-focused works alongside traditional maintenance.
Generally the Summer Works Scheme is designed to allow schools to carry out small and medium building works that will improve and upgrade existing school buildings.
Deputy Smith says he wants to congratulate the 7 successful schools in Cavan and 3 in Monaghan.
He said: "It varies from time to time. I had a reason to support a number of the applications that have been successful, working with the various schools."
The succesful applicants were
St Marys N S Arva, S N Greach Rathain Belturbet, Aughadreena National School Stradone, S N Corr Lorgan, St Patrick's College, Loreto College, Breifne College, Scoil Bhríde Carrickmacross, St. Louis Secondary School, and Ballybay Community College.
