Sod turns on new Gaelscoil in Castleblayney

'Diggers have arrived on site of the €7.5 million development'

Minister for Education, Norma Foley turned the sod on the new Gaelscoil in Castleblayney yesterday on a green field site on the Sherlock Rd in the town.

The school which has 140 students enrolled is currently in an industrial estate and after years of campaigning for a new school, diggers have arrived on site of the €7.5 million development.

The original school opened in 2008 and they had no principal until 2009 and since then the popularity of the school has only gone one way. According to Brendan O Dufaigh who is the chairman of Gaelscoil Lorgan, this is about preserving our native language and offering children an opportunity to be an Irish native speaker.

He says this has been a long time coming but will be of huge benefit to the wider Castleblayney community for generations to come. Local TD, Deputy Niamh Smyth highlighted the great work and involvement that the CMETB are doing to deliver this new school.
