Oireachtas members of all parties and none, from across the countey heard of the vital work done by local suicide prevention chariry, SOSAD and their desperate plea for funding to keep the doors open.
The call was made as part of an AV Room briefing at Leinster House by SOSAD.
As well as detailing the vital work that they do in our communities across the region, they also had heartbreaking personal testimonies from people who have used their services and set out the challenges that they are currently facing and will face in the coming weeks if this funding isn’t brought on stream by the government.
Deputy Cathy Bennett raised the issue with the Taoiseach this afternoon calling on him to intervene in this situation.
In a online social media post today, SOSAD Ireland said they presented in detail all of the current obstacles that we are facing while we work on compliance with HSE requirements for Section 39 SLA, and we are hopeful that with the support of everyone present today, we will be granted the interim funding promised to us by Minister for Mental Health, Mary Butler.
