Monaghan County Council has approved the proposed amendment to road traffic special speed limits in Co Monaghan bye-laws.
The old national road that runs parallel to the Castleblayney bypass and connects the town to the greater Monaghan area was previously given speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour back in February.
As the current chairman of the speed limit committee, Cllr Raymond Aughey said reducing the speed limit for this road back in February was an "error" on behalf of the committee.
Cllr Aughey described this particular road infrastructure as an "important artery."
It was voted by elected members at this week's sitting of Monaghan County Council that the speed limit on this stretch of road would be changed once again to 80 kilometres per hour.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Aughey said he was "delighted" to bring this anomaly to a close.
