The chair of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party says there is strong support for Heather Humphreys across Co. Longford.
Longford-Westmeath TD Michéal Carrigy has been giving his reaction to her decision to join the race for the Áras.
The former Cavan-Monaghan TD and Minister for Social Protection is understood to have the support of 42 members of the parliamentary party.
While Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly has also confirmed his interest to become the next president of Ireland, but is not likely to reach the 20 signatures required to force a contest.
