The Good Friday Agreement has been 'transformative' for Britain and Ireland and for relationship building.
That's according to local TD, Deputy Brendan Smith who was speaking in recent days in Leinster House on a Dail motion on a report entitled lessons from the architects of the Good Friday Agreement.
The Cavan Monaghan TD said as a local representative and a person that grew up in the border region, he said many a time he was delayed at checkpoints when crossing from Fermanagh to Cavan on a daily basis.
He said that it is thankful that the era known as the troubles is consigned to history and that lots of younger people living on the island today never encountered growing up during these times.
Deputy Brendan Smith says we need a government in place in Northern Ireland and that every day that a government is not in place it's a bad day.
Deputy Smith says that over the years he has fought for justice for the victims of the period known as the troubles.
