There will 'absolutely' be local turkeys on kitchen tables this Christmas despite bird flu outbreak

That's despite the "serious outbreak of avian influenza" on two farms in Co Monaghan.

There will "absolutely, 100 percent" be local turkeys on kitchen tables this Christmas.

That's according to the IFA regional Chair for Ulster and North Leinster, who was responding to concerns of a turkey shortage over Christmas.

Nigel Reneghan says there "will be no issue whatsoever with the supply of turkeys" despite the "serious outbreak of avian influenza" on two farms in Co Monaghan.

It's estimated that 45,000 birds have been infected across the two sites and a 10km restriction zone has been established.

Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Mr Reneghan explained the steps that have been taken in response to the outbreak and he encouraged people to shop local:
