Two brothers and a young woman accused of attacking another man with a baseball bat in Monaghan Town have been further remanded on bail Monaghan Circuit Court.
The three are facing a number of serious charges in relation to the alleged incident that left the man fighting for his life in hospital.
Jason (26) and Stephen Maughan (25) of Mullaghmatt and Gortakeegan, Monaghan respectively and Molly Roberts (22), Lakeview, Enagh, Monaghan appeared before a sitting of Monaghan Circuit Court this morning charged with assault causing harm to a man in his 40s following an incident on the Park Road in Monaghan on January 14th of this year.
The three have been on bail since the incident first came in front of the courts at the start of last year.
All three a charged with charges that they did assault Declan Wallace causing them harm. Contrary to Section 3 (1) and 3(2) of the Non-Fatal Offences against the Person Act 1997 (as amended by Section 20 of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023). The second charge is assault Causing Harm and Assault Causing Serious Harm in the course of a dispute produce in a manner likely unlawfully to intimidate another person an article capable of inflicting serious injury, to wit, Baseball bat. Contrary to section 11 Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.
The third charge relates to allegedly intentionally or recklessly caused serious harm to Declan Wallace, Contrary to Section 4 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.
All three also stand accused of producing a baseball bat during the course of the same incident.
The court heard previously how the injured man was left in a critical condition in the intensive care unit of Dublin's Beaumont Hospital after he was allegedly violently assaulted with a steel baseball bat following an earlier verbal altercation. All three were further remanded on bail to appear at Monaghan Circuit Court on April 14th.
