Timelines have been confirmed for major road projects in both Cavan and Monaghan under the government's National Development Plan Review 2025.
Construction is confirmed to begin by 2029 on the R188 Rathkenny East West Road.
Co Cavan has received clarity on the future of the N3 Virginia Bypass.
According to today's published review, construction on the major road scheme is set to start by 2029.
This is backed by a Government commitment of up to €500 million.
Elsewhere, two major N2 upgrades in Co Monaghan, Ardee to South of Castleblayney and Clontibret to the Border, have also secured timelines and funding.
This combined with Cavan’s projects represents an investment of over €1 billion in transport links across the region.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Minister Niamh Smyth welcomed the announcement: "The publication of the NDP Review 2025 offers clear direction for County Cavan. With defined construction timelines and substantial funding now in place, these road projects can move forward with confidence. The improvements will enhance safety, reduce congestion, and support economic development across the county.
"The confirmation of construction dates and major financial backing ensures that these projects are moving firmly from aspiration to implementation. Residents, businesses, and contractors in Cavan can now plan ahead with confidence as the county prepares for a new era of improved connectivity and regional growth."
