Community groups in County Donegal have been posting tributes online for well-known businessman and community activist Stephen McCahill.
The father-of-two and former 'Donegal Person of the Year' was pronounced dead after emergency teams responded to an assault at his home in Ardara in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The former Independent general election candidate who was originally from Glenties, was also an auctioneer, publican, and director of a number of companies.

A man in his 30's has been detained for questioning in connection with the attack.
