Tributes continue to pour in for Monaghan man who died in Portugal

One tribute described Dylan as "one of a kind" and a "wonderful young man with a great personality."

Tributes continue to pour in for a Co Monaghan man aged in his 20s that died while holidaying in Portugal during the weekend.

Dylan McCahey from Magheracloone has been described as "one of life's true gentlemen."

In a statement issued to Northern Sound, the Department of Foreign Affairs said it was aware of the case and is providing consular assistance. Dylan, a Magheracloone native worked previously in the local shop, he was well known and popular in his wider community. The young man was a past pupil of the Patrician High School in Carrickmacross and a biological and medical sciences graduate of Maynooth University.

One of Mr McCahey's former teachers said they were "heartbroken" to hear of his death. They said they had the privilege of teaching Dylan and remember him as a truly bright, kind-hearted and thoughtful pupil. The teacher went on to say that he has touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

Another teacher said that "Dylan will be remembered fondly by us all, as a bright,kind and extremely talented young man. We are very proud to have had the opportunity to watch Dylan grow into the fine young man he became. He has left a lasting positive impression on everyone who had the pleasure of working with him."

While a friend of his said online that Dylan always made him laugh and "always had a smile on his face."

Another said he was a "wonderful young man with a great personality." Another friend paying tribute online said, "I have such fond memories of him - always smiling, full of kindness, and a true pleasure to be around. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him."

A tribute online said from a friend said the popular young man had an infectious smile, "Dylan was one of the funniest, charismatic and most genuine individual I have had the pleasure to meet. He always had that infectious smile that would always get you in a good mood and could make you laugh without trying." Dylan is survived by his parents PJ and Geraldine, his brother Alan and his sister Caitlin. No funeral arrangements have been made yet.
