Tributes paid to former Cavan GP and councillor

Eamonn has been described as a "visionary" in advocating strongly for a range of developments in Cavan Town and a "dedicated" and "hardworking" GP.

Cavan-Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Brendan Smith has paid tribute to his former party colleague and local GP Dr Eamonn McDwyer (80).

Dr McDwyer of Cavan Town died peacefully on Thursday at Cavan General Hospital.

In a statement issued to Northern Sound, Deputy Brendan Smith said; "I wish to express my sincere sympathy to his wife Anna, son, daughters and extended family.

"Eamonn served with great distinction and commitment as a Fianna Fáil member of Cavan Town Council for 30 years and was also Cathaoirleach. He also served as a Member of Co Cavan Vocational Education Committee.

"Eamonn was visionary in advocating strongly for a range of developments in Cavan Town always in the best interests of the local community. He was a dedicated and hardworking GP and over recent days I heard many of his former patients speak glowingly of the care he provided."
