A Cootehill man who tragically died in Australia on Tuesday has been described by those who knew him as an "honourable man who had time for everyone" and one of life's "true gentlemen."
Former Cootehill footballer Ambrose Patrick McMullen, known locally as 'Ambie' died at the scene following at underground explosion at Endeavor mine at Cobar, New South Wales.
The 59-year-old was among two people killed in the explosion which is reported to be the first such incident of its kind since 2015.
In a statement Police said a man in his 60s and a woman in her 20s died at the scene. Another woman in her 20s was airlifted to hospital with minor injuries and shock.
In a touching tribute posted online, Cootehill Chamber said "Ambie was well known and fondly remembered in our community, and his untimely passing has deeply saddened all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this heart-breaking time."
No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.
