Tributes paid to “true legend of Cavan football”

Paddy was one of the cornerstones of Cavan football in the 1950s.

Tributes have been paid following the passing of Paddy Carolan, the last surviving Cavan All-Ireland senior medal winner.

He was a member of the 1952 Cavan squad who won their last All-Ireland title.

Cúchulainn’s GFC have described the Mullagh man as a true legend of Cavan football , a loyal club member & passionate supporter.
The Mullagh club said Paddy was one of the cornerstones of Cavan football in the 1950s, remembered not only for his skill and determination on the field, but also for his love of the game and loyalty to the Breffni Blues and Cúchulainn’s.

Among his many honours, he was part of the Cavan team that lifted the National League title in 1950, played in some of the county’s most memorable battles, and lined out in attack on the All-Ireland winning team of 1952.

His contribution to his own club Cúchulainn’s was immense. Paddy was hugely instrumental in the formation of Cúchulainn’s GFC in 1969, later serving as manager in the 1980s, and most recently as President of the club.
