Two local men have been charged in connection with a multi-million euro drug seizure in Co.Meath.
The cocaine and heroin valued at €5.3 million was seized in Navan on Tuesday.
61 year old Joseph Sherry of, Allagesh,Smithborough, Co.Monaghan and 63 year old Matthew Farrell of Lisagoan, Kingscourt, Co Cavan appeared before Judge Eirinn McKiernan today. The men were charged with unlawful possession of drugs and possession for sale or supply at a premises at Leggagh, Castletown, Navan on Tuesday 27th May last. Detective Garda Ben McGarry gave evidence of having charged Mr Sherry who made no reply to the charges. The accused was represented at Navan District Court by solicitor Catherine Taaffe. Matthew Farrell, a garden centre owner, made no reply when charged, Detective Garda Paul Cullen told the court. Judge McKiernan said that due to the seriousness of the charges she was refusing bail.
Solicitor Dermot Monahan represented Mr Farrell.
Mr Farrell was remanded in custody to appear by video link at Trim District Court on Tuesday 3rd June next.
