An Ukrainian community leader living in Cavan has been recognised for his humanitarian work.
Sergiy Balan, chairperson of the Association of Ukrainians in the Republic of Ireland, received the Ukrainian Cross of Honour on Independence Day recently.
The award recognises the efforts of the group to deliver aid, which includes ambulances, medical supplies and toys to children in Ukraine.
He says he accepted the award on behalf of the whole community and had high praise for Irish generosity.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning Sergiy said the group will continue fundraising as the war shows no sign of ending.
