An unaccompanied learner driver speeding at 158 km per hour, a drunk driver and motorists making dangerous overtakes were just some of the detections made by Cavan / Monaghan gardaí on National Slow Down Day.
The unaccompanied learner was arrested and had their vehicle seized. Fixed charge penalty notices were issued to speeders breaking the 100 and 60 km speed limits on national and rural roads.
An online post by Cavan /Monaghan gardaí said "despite all the media attention surrounding National Slow Down Day, some motorists continue to show complete disregard for the posted speed limits". National Slowdown Day ran for 24 hours from midnight to midnight on Wednesday.
