There is widespread fear and uncertainty over job security for local staff members employed by EuroGiant.
Around 640 jobs on a national scale are now at risk following the High Court's decision to appoint liquidators to the companies which operate the EuroGiant chain.
EuroGiant was established in Dublin back in 1990 and has since expanded nationwide, with stores in both Cavan and Monaghan.
EuroGeneral Limited and Bushgrove Limited have blamed "rising costs" for the decision.
A spokesperson for EuroGiant said after more than 30 years of trading the company has entered court-appointed liquidation.
Rent and day-to-day operating expenses, along with increased competition are all factors that is contributing to this development.
EuroGiant stores will remain open and continue trading as normal while a full review of the store network is being carried out.
