United front needed to oppose Mercosur says local councillor

He brought a motion to Cavan County Council calling on all 14 MEP’s to oppose the deal.

Politics has to be put to the side and a united front is required when it comes to opposing the Mercosur Agreement.

That’s the view of Independent Ireland Councillor Shane P O’Reilly who says the deal is far from over.

He brought a motion to Cavan County Council calling on all 14 MEP’s to oppose the deal and show a united front and to wear the green jersey.

Cllr O’Reilly named three MEP’s who are understood to be voting in the direction of the supporting the current deal and he said to say he was disappointed would be an understatement in relation to these MEP’s.

The Mullagh native believes all is not lost and is calling on the Taoiseach and the Tanaiste to call on MEP’s to vote against Mercosur.

He believes there is too much sitting on the fence and he wants all 14 MEP’s let it be known to Cavan County Council how they will be voting when it comes to this deal that is bad news for Irish farmers and for rural Ireland.
