Urgent calls to implement new community safety structure in Monaghan

Cllr Alan Johnston said the establishment of a new Community Safety Partnerships should be expedited by Monaghan County Council.

A local councillor is "confident" that the new Community Safety Partnership structure will be in place in a number of months across Co Monaghan.

This will provide a forum were community groups, volunteers, local councillors and Gardai can meet to discuss the issues impacting people's lives on a daily basis.

The structure was initially designed to replace the Joint Policing Committees (JPCs) which were brought to a halt over a year ago.

Cllr Alan Johnson expressed his disappointment that the JPCs had not yet been set up to deal with the likes of anti-social behaviour and other issues arising across the county.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Johnston called on the local authority to expedite the putting in place of this new structure which he says will be of "huge benefit" to the people of Co Monaghan:
