"Monaghan should not be treated any differently to any other county across the State." That's according to Sinn Fein's Brian McKenna who was selected to be in attendance at tomorrow's meeting between a number of local councillors and Minister for Transport and the Environment, Eamon Ryan.
According to Cllr McKenna, Minister Ryan's planned visit to the Farney County has been a "long time in the making." Ahead of tomorrow's meeting, Cllr McKenna revealed that issues around the N2, County Roads and the North South Interconnector will be to the fore of discussions. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr McKenna believes concerns and questions around these pressing topics "must be addressed."
"We need to hear from the Minister that his department will continue through the TII to fund the upgrade of the N2 and that he would also seriously look at undergrounding the North South Interconnector," explained. "The length of time that it has taken to get this issue dealt with is just a joke. I'd like to hear from Minister Eamon Ryan that we in Co Monaghan will be treated the same as other parts of the 26 counties, that's what I want to hear from the Minister tomorrow."
