Vandals have recently hit a disused workhouse in county Cavan.
The Bawnboy Workhouse has been completely vacant for over two years, after community groups were told to leave it following safety concerns.
Prior to this community groups like the Men's Shed and Foróige had been using it and work was done to preserve the building, with locals believing vandals would be deterred if the premises was in use.
Cavan County Council told the group to vacate the workhouse due to a belief it was unsafe for people.
The recent vandalism has prompted fresh calls for building to be brought back into use.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Bawnboy local, Dymphna Headen described the destruction.
"I was there last Sunday and somebody had taken chairs out of the Men's Shed place and they'd crashed them into the windows. There's broken glass all over the place. Somebody is obviously enjoying breaking things. They've broken the toilet that was there. The people used to sleep on straw mattresses made of sacks. They've taken those out and thrown them in the ground where they can get wet."
