There was huge frustration voiced by various councillors at the full meeting of Cavan County Council this afternoon.
It followed the announcement that the Virginia Bypass is not be expected to go to planning until Q4 2027.
The announcement followed a motion raised by TP O’Reilly seeking an update on the progression of the Virginia Bypass to planning stage proposed for early 2026.
In response the update was given that the bypass is now looking to go the planning stage in q4 of 2027.
This was met with frustration from councillors, who believe the importance of the progression of the bypass cannot be understated.
Some councillors who supported the motion includes Shane P O’Reilly, Winston Bennett, Trevor Smith, Philip Brady, Aine Smith and Clifford Kelly.
Caoithearleach of the Council John Paul Feeley noted the huge frustration felt by all councillors on this issue, saying he would safely say that the Virginia Bypass is an issue that came up for every councillor when knocking on doors canvassing for election.
