A local councillor has called on motorists to slow down when taking to the roads.
Cllr Niamh Brady says the issue of road safety is compounded by the dangerous and often reckless behavior of speeding on our roads.
She said the issue has been raised to her time and time again, adding that speeding has become far too common on both our main roads and rural roads..
The Cavan councillor says we live in a fast paced enviroment, we forget one crucial fact: speed kills. It doesn't just endanger the driver, but every single person on the road, from fellow motorists to pedestrians, cyclists, and children.
She says we all have a role to play, with no magic solution to eradicate speeding and motorists have to remember that the road is a shared space and where decisions matter.
Cllr Brady says we are living in a world where speed seems to be the ultimate goal and this mindset needs to change and change very quickly.
