A well-known County Cavan postman is retiring from his position today.
Paul Cox has spent 32 years working in Cavan post office.
Mr Cox is a widely recognised character in the area, known also as a drummer with various bands through the years.
Throughout his professional life, Paul had a wide range of experiences, including the Covid-19 pandemic, when postal workers played a huge role in their communities.
Commenting on his career, the Cavan man says the post office is a great job. "You're a server of the people and that's what it's all about. It's a great job, a great job in rural Ireland because you get to know all the people and you get to know all your comrades and you're trained on a post straight away. So it's a town post you're usually trained on straight away, which is a walking post. You'd be taught all around Cavan Town what to do and how to deliver."
"It's a lot more complicated than you might think. It's like anything else" he continued "Somebody says I could do that, anyone could do that, which is fine until you go to do it and you go oh I didn't know that was there, I didn't know they lived there"
