A motorist has been arrested and detained in relation to an incident that involved the discovery of a suspicious device in a vehicle on the N2 in Carrickmacross yesterday.
At approximately 3pm yesterday afternoon, An Garda Síochána stopped a vehicle travelling on the N2 south of Carrickmacross.
Following the vehicle being stopped, An Garda Síochána requested the assistance of the Irish Defence Forces EOD team.
The EOD team completed an examination of the vehicle.
The outcome is not being released for operational reasons.
A female aged in her 20s, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested and detained pursuant to Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
As this is an ongoing operation An Garda Síochána is providing no further comment.
The road has since reopened
