Works commence on multi-million euro Truagh enterprise hub

The project is due to be completed by Q3 of 2026.

Building works have commenced on a multi million euro project at Knockconan in Truagh on the new Blackwater Valley Rural Enterprise and Digital Hub.

By partnering with Monaghan County Council, Truagh Development Association CLG secured €3.3m through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.  The construction of this facility will bring to fruition, years of hard work and commitment to the delivery of this project by Truagh Development Association CLG.

“We are grateful to the Elected Members, Executive and Staff of Monaghan County Council and former Minister Heather Humphreys for their unfailing support and encouragement for this project.  This building, which is being funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development, through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, will include remote working facilities, a café, craft shop, state of the art catering kitchen, training facilities, art exhibition space and so much more”, said Michael Treanor, Chairperson Truagh Development Association. “The Board, manager and staff team are absolutely delighted that the building has started and we look forward to moving in to our new home in 2027”.

Cllr. Paul Gibbons, Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council added ‘Monaghan County Council are to be delighted to be progressing this project in collaboration with Truagh Development Association.  The Project will be transformational for the regeneration of this rural area.

Cllr. Sean Conlon, Cathoirleach of Monaghan Municipal District, stated that ‘Truagh Development Association is one of the largest development and social enterprise companies in the Municipal District.  Monaghan Municipal District are  delighted to be investing in this project that will facilitate the expansion of the Association’s social and community services and allow it to develop new enterprise and commercial opportunities identified in its Strategic Plan’.

Construction of the new building, which is located between the Sacred Heart Church Ballyoisin and the Errigal Truagh Special Needs centre, just off the main N2 between Emyvale and Aughnacloy, is expected to be completed in Q3 2026.

Robert Burns Chief Executive of Monaghan County Council outlined that ‘Truagh Development Association has outgrown its current home in the Blackwater Valley Learning Centre.  This new building, will provide a base for the Association to continue to expand existing services and develop new rural enterprise supports and services for the entire North Monaghan Rural Community.

Monaghan County Council say they look forward to working with the Department of Rural and Community Development, Truagh Development Association and McKelvey Construction Ltd during the construction phase of the project to ensure the successful delivery of this project for the community of North Monaghan.
