The principal of St Aidan’s National School in Bawnboy says the school is "thrilled" to be in the final stages of developing a brand new playground.
According to James Rudden design work is now complete and he is hopeful that the new playground will be fully complete by mid-February.
78 students attend the local school and he says this safe and inclusive space is much needed as it will enhance children’s play and active time.
As part of the school’s fundraising efforts, the school organised a candlelit concert in St Mogue’s Church before Christmas which was a “huge success” according to the local school principal.
St Aidan’s also launched an idonate platform with an original target of €5,000 which currently remains open for donations.
Mr Rudden says he has been "overwhelmed" by the support of local people and businesses as that initial target of €5,000 has now surpassed to over €17,000.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr Rudden said: "I want to pay tribute to Kiera Curran who passed away in early December. Kiera was Chairperson of our Parents Association and had done great work within our school community and it was around mid-summer time when Ciara got in touch with the fantastic idea of the candlelit concert."
