Listen Back: Bragan search continues effort to find remains Columba McVeigh

Bragan search continues effort to find remains Columba McVeigh. International Day of the Disappeared which is an annual event was marked in Monaghan last week.

The WAVE Trauma Centre; the largest cross community victim and survivors support group in Northern Ireland; held an event in Bragan bog, Monaghan last Friday.

Indeed, the search is being carried out by the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims Remains (ICLVR) for the remains of Columba McVeigh.  Columba was abducted, murdered and secretly buried by the IRA nearly 50 years ago in 1975.

Five white crosses were set in the ground to represent Joe Lynskey, disappeared in 1972; Columba McVeigh, disappeared in 1975; Seamus Maguire disappeared in 1976; Robert Nairac, disappeared in 1977; and Lisa Dorrian, disappeared in 2005.

Speaking at Bragan Bog, Dr Sandra Peake, CEO of WAVE, said: "it is particularly poignant that we are marking International Day of the Disappeared here at Bragan Bog with those who have endured and continue to endure the indescribable pain of not knowing where their loved one lies".

Moreover, she said these families have one goal; and that is the need to lay them to rest. A coffin to carry and a grave to tend. Sandra spoke to Ronan Gargan about the work WAVE do.
