IFA Poultry Chair Brendan Soden said egg shortages on supermarket shelves have arisen because producers are not getting paid enough.
The local farmer said that producers have been warning retailers and egg packers that farmgate prices are not financially sustainable to meet growing demand.
He said that history is repeating itself, and the UK experienced this in 22/23 when shelves were left empty and rationing of eggs was introduced
Maitiú Monaghan spoke with Brendan this week, and asked him about margins for poultry farmers
