Ray McAdam of Fine Gael, who hails originally from the Breffni County and grew up in Co.Fermanagh, was elected to the position last night. Furthermore, he is the 358th person to hold the office.

One of his first official acts was to announce the establishment of a Lord Mayor's commission to transform the city centre. Cllr McAdam studied philosophy and political science in Trinity College. He was elected to Dublin City Council at the age of 25.
