Listen Back: Clones woman highlights concern over potential site memorial garden

Listen Back: Clones woman highlights concern over potential site memorial garden. Three sites are shortlisted for consideration in greater detail for the Gone but Not Forgotten Memorial Garden Clones.

The Gone but Not Forgotten group; founded in 1985; has organised annual memorial services since 2003. A committee from the group proposed a permanent memorial for riders of motorbikes; who have lost their lives in road traffic collisions.

Furthermore, earlier in the year, a review was undertaken following confusion surrounding the chosen site. Moreover, Monaghan County Council engaged the Paul Hogarth Company to complete a site selection report, in March of this year.

Additionally, the consultant team identified 20 potential sites for a memorial and garden. Indeed, the sites are all located within the town of Clones. The sites were assessed based on area; visibility; accessibility; setting; lack of displacement; and additionality and regeneration.

Following an assessment of all 20 sites, three are shortlisted to be considered in greater detail.

They are, Barry McGuigan Park; Play Area Garden at Clones Marina; and Roslea Road Car Park at Junction with Church Hill. Local resident Katie Lendrum has expressed her concerns over one particular site. She joined Ronan Gargan earlier.

The Gone but Not Forgotten group has issued Northern Sound with the following statement. The play park is entirely enclosed by a fence. The proposed site is adjacent to, not in the play park. Cars, vans and motorcycles have been entering and exiting and also parking beside the agreed site for years with no health and safety concerns for the users of the play park. Also note that to access the beautiful canal marina site, cars, vans, motorcycles and now busses have access via a right away through the site that this resident has constantly called the playgrounds.
