Continued calls for public inquiry into death of Shane O'Farrell. Deputy Matt Carthy has once again continued his calls for a public inquiry into the death of Shane O'Farrell.
Deputy Carthy called on the Minister for Justice on Thursday last week for the inquiry. Prior to Minister Jim O'Callaghan meeting the O'Farrell family on Friday last.
It was the first opportunity to present oral questions to the new Minister for Justice by the local TD on this issue. On the evening of August 2nd , 2011, the 23-year-old was cycling home when he was struck by a car driven by Zigimantas Gridziuska near Carrickmacross in a hit and run incident. The following day, the Lithuanian man surrendered himself to gardaí. However, the O’Farrell family feel he should never have been at liberty to kill Shane that night.
For almost 14 long years, Lucia and Jim O'Farrell have lived every parent's worst nightmare. Ronan Gargan has been speaking to Deputy Carthy on his most recent calls.
