Family find out via WhatsApp of mother’s assisted suicide. The family of a woman; who lived in Co Cavan; have spoken out at their horror when they discovered, via WhatsApp, that their mother had secretly ended her life by assisted suicide in Switzerland. Furthermore, her ashes would be posted to them.
Maureen Slough, 58, from Mullagh had told her family that she was going on holiday to Lithuania with a friend last month. Instead she went to the Swiss assisted suicide clinic, Pegasos, to end her life.
According to her daughter, Megan Royal, Maureen had a successful working life; Moreover, she was promoted to the role of executive officer in the civil service before retiring last year.
Maureen’s daughter Megan said the first she knew that her mother had died was when a volunteer for the group sent her a WhatsApp message.
Megan wants to highlight the way her family has been treated in an effort to make sure this does not happen to another family and she spoke to Ronan Gargan on the Wider View earlier.
