Government need to do more for Irish language says local councillor. Last week, for the first time in the history of the state, the Irish language community were forced to go on strike.
Indeed, they were opposing the latest round of cuts announced by Foras na Gaeilge. Furthermore, the cuts amount to €820,000. Cllr Stiofan Conaty says these cuts are disastrous and will affect groups who are already under severe funding pressure.
He said the unprecedented strike is a testament to the frustration and anger they are feeling. Cllr Conaty raised a motion in Cavan County Council this week over the issue and he spoke to Ronan Gargan about his calls for the Government to do more for the Irish language.
