Listen Back: Heatwave 'unlikely' across Cavan/Monaghan

Heatwave 'unlikely' across Cavan/Monaghan. Cavan and Monaghan can expect warm temperatures this week. However, it is "unlikely" that temperatures over the coming days will meet the criteria needed to declare a heatwave.

That's according to Monaghan man and national forecaster, Gerry Murphy.

While Met Eireann stated that Ireland could record its first heatwave in three years this week; Gerry said that might only be the case in some parts of the country.

A heatwave is declared in Ireland where temperatures are above 25 degrees for five days in a row.

Speaking to Northern Sound, the Magheracloone forecaster says not all parts of the country will reach the temperatures to meet the heatwave criteria.

Despite this, Gerry believes temperatures in Cavan and Monaghan could reach as high as 27 degrees.

Overall, he says people can expect hot weather right through the week, particularly on Saturday.
