The local fitness gurus are raising funds in the name of one very special and brave Co Cavan boy.
Leon Briody, age 9, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2020. Leonhas been battling the illness ever since; experiencing multiple relapses and undergoing treatments; including a bone marrow transplant and CAR-T transplant. However, despite his low immune system and susceptibility to infections, Leon is living his best life. He is playing under-10s football and managing his daily activities well.
Moreover, his family has adapted to a new normal; facing the challenges of relapses and long hospital stays. Leon's resilience and love for life has inspired his family and community, demonstrating the strength and adaptability of children facing serious health issues.
The goal of the fundraiser by Dutchy's Fitness based in Corlurgan Business park in Cavan is to raise €10,000 which is already reached for Oscars Kids; a charity set up to help children going through a cancer diagnosis. A special event takes place on Sunday called Hyrox for Leon. Indeed, which will see lots of people from far and near taking on the popular global fitness challenge.
According to Darragh from Dutchy's Fitness, Oscars Kids has been a great support for Leon's family, so the local gym wanted to fundraise for them.
Leon's mother Diane says Oscars Kids has been amazing towards Leon, adding that he is living is best life. Ronan Gargan spoke to both Darragh and Diane about this weekends planned event.
