Listen Back: Local reaction to Mercosur. The Agriculture Minister says preparations are underway in the case the Mercosur deal goes through. EU member states are due to decide whether or not to accept the agreement; which would increase trade opportunities with countries in South America.
However, Ireland is one of a number of countries which plan to oppose the deal, as farmers here are worried about the standard of products which would be imported. Minister Martin Heydon has just landed back from Brussels, and says he made progress while over there.
