More needs to be done to prevent further fish kills in Ballinagh . A local councillor has called for a full report from Inland Fisheries Ireland; in relation to a fish Kill in Ballinagh.
Cllr Winston Bennett said obtaining details in relation to the fish kill is important. Indeed, the kill saw over 1,000 mortalities in the Ballinagh river.
The Fine Gael Councillor says Uisce Eireann needs to speed up works on the waste water plant in Ballinagh. IFI environmental and fisheries staff have identified deceased brown trout; stickleback; minnow; and roach along a 1km stretch of the river.
Water samples have been taken from the scene, and IFI is following a definite line of enquiry into the suspected source of the pollution.
Cllr Bennett says it's the second fish kill in the Co Cavan river in the past 3 years. The Fine Gael councillor says locals are concerned. Furthermore, they feel like nothing is being done about the problem. Listen here on Northern Sound:
