Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he was deeply saddened to hear of Dr Rory O'Hanlon's death.
He said that the former TD for the region had left a "significant footprint on Irish public life and on the Fianna Fáil party".
Mr Martin said Rory was a very valued friend and he greatly valued his insights and advice since he was first elected to Dáil Eireann.
Speaking on the Wider View earlier, the Taoiseach said Rory was a gifted doctor, a caring and empathetic man who sought to improve the lives of his patients and community and he was a good listener.
He outlines what he believes the former Cavan and Monaghan TD will be remembered for when Mr Martin joined Ronan Gargan on the Wider View earlier.
