10 gardai assaulted while on duty last year in Cavan and Monaghan

10 gardai were injured during assaults while on duty across Cavan and Monaghan during the course of 2022.

Across the country 285 gardaí were injured after being assaulted on duty last year.

According to freedom of information figures released to Newstalk, it's a 17 per cent increase on the previous year.

Bruises, bites and dislocations were among the injuries gardai received last year.

The Cavan/Monaghan Garda Division figures show 7 were bruises, grazes or bites, 2 involved bone fractures and 1 was an open wound.

Nationally, 23 involved bone fractures or dislocations - and 17 were open wounds.

102 were bruises, grazes or bites, and one officer received multiple injuries that were serious.
