A Co Cavan based vet has issued advice for keeping the pets safe as the good weather continues across the weekend.
Josh Clarke from Cavan vet clinic in Corlurgan Business Park in Cavan is warning that animals can be affected by heat stroke during warm spells.
He said heat stroke starts with excessive panting.
Severe stages of the illness can lead to vomiting and seizures which can lead to death if not treated immediately.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the local vet also highlighted the importance of leaving out cool water for animals during warm spells of weather and ensuring that animals are kept in the shade at all times:
