119 stray dogs admitted to Cavan Dog Pound in 2019

119 stray dogs were admitted to the Cavan Dog Pound last year, with 53 dogs being surrendered by their owners, and four were seized by the council.
26 stray dogs have been admitted as of June of this year, while 56 dogs have been seized.

Dogs can be seized for a number of reasons – this can include the dogs being deemed dangerous or being transported illegally.

50 of these dogs were later rehomed, while 65 were reclaimed by their owners.
A further 57 dogs were transferred to dog welfare groups.

Two of these dogs were put to sleep, while one died of natural causes.

Meanwhile, 26 stray dogs have been admitted to the Cavan Dog Pound as of June this year, and nine other dogs have been surrendered.
56 dogs have been seized, a huge increase on the previous year – 55 dogs were seized in May when Gardaí stopped a truck at an Operation Fanacht checkpoint in the Corduff area of Ballinagh, leading to a multi-agency investigation.

One of the dogs from this year’s figures has been reclaimed by its owner, three have been rehomed, and one has been transferred to a dog welfare group.
One dog was also put to sleep in January of this year.
